The emperor after Tang Xuanzong was Tang Suzong Li Heng, the third son of Tang Xuanzong Li Longji. He was the first emperor in the Tang Dynasty to ascend the throne outside the capital and then enter Chang'an. After Li Heng ascended the throne, he respected Xuanzong as the Supreme Emperor and changed his reign title to "Zhi De".

Tang Suzong Li Heng (February 21, 711 - May 16, 762), was originally named Li Sisheng, Li Jun, and Li Yu. Suzong Li Heng was once named the loyal king. In 738 AD, he was established as the prince and changed his name to Li Heng. After the Maweiyi rebellion, he was appointed by Xuanzong as the general marshal of the world's soldiers and horses, commanding Shuofang and Hedong, and the military envoy of Pinglu, responsible for quelling the rebellion.

On July 12, 756 AD, Li Heng ascended the throne in Lingwu and was known as Suzong in history. Yao respected Xuanzong as the Supreme Emperor and changed his reign title to "Zhide". Suzong of the Tang Dynasty was the first emperor of the Tang Dynasty to ascend the throne outside the capital and then enter Chang'an. He reigned for five years (756-762). He later died of panic during a palace coup at the age of 50 and was buried in Jianling (Wujiang Mountain, 18 miles northeast of today's Liquan County, Shaanxi Province).
